SPRING 2012…PARK TIME IS BACK!

Are you a home-educating family that wants to get together with others and get outside? If so, consider coming out to Park Time.
It is nothing formal – the kids might have a casual game of Frisbee, soccer, group games, whatever they come up with! There is also the regular playground equipment, and as the days get hotter, the spray park. The parents will be seen either chasing after little ones, or visiting in a circle of lawn chairs getting support, sharing ideas, or just relaxing together.

Where: Warman Lions Spray Park

When: Weekly on Mondays – starting May 7, 2012

Time: 1:00 pm (till 3:30ish)

Homeschool Skating

Homeschool Skating program is soon starting so mark your calendars and get the kids to try on those skates to see whose feet grew!!!

Our tentative first skate date is Sept. 12, 2011. This year we again have Mondays and Wednesdays booked from 12:00 noon till 2:45pm at the Warman Diamond Arena. The rink will be closed on the following Mondays: Oct. 10, & Dec. 26, 2011.

Remember, the hockey is soft puck and everyone on the ice is supposed to be wearing skates (no boots) and a helmet.

Rosthern Valley Regional Park Day

On August 29th, please join us for a day at Valley Regional Park in Rosthern, starting around 2 p.m. Bring toys to play with, your camera, food and drink for your family that you don’t mind sharing, and a sense of fun. 2011 Dragon Boat Festival – Team Entries Available!

Hi everyone! I am currently doing some contract work for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. One of their upcoming events is the Dragon Boat Festival on July 22nd and 23rd. I would love to be able to have a homeschool boat! I would need a volunteer for team captain, and 24 additional individuals ages 14 and up (these numbers include one drummer, one steersperson, and three trained alternates, all of whom should be able to swim 100m with a lifejacket – no test!). There will be 3 scheduled training sessions and each person must attend at least 2 of the 3 training sessions. Adults and students are welcome, you do not have to be actively homeschooling or a student to participate. You can put in either an all women’s team, or a mixed team. A mixed team must have a minimum of 8 women and 8 men.

The team captain basically organizes the paperwork and ensures everyone knows the schedule.

You can get businesses to sponsor tshirts, you can make your own tshirts, choose your own name, and coordinate fundraising online for Heart and Stroke. There will be prizes for team fundraisers, individuals fundraisers, best times, etc. If there is a business out there run by homeschoolers that would like to advertise, you can sponsor the boat entry in whole or in part ($800 to the end of March, $900 after) and put your logo on the team tshirts or even have the team name include your business name. There are tons of opportunities and tons of fun. If no business will sponsor the team entry (in whole or in part) then with 25 crew members the cost is $32 each. You could even hold an event to raise funds to pay the team entry.

This would be a great community building/team building event for homeschoolers in our area, and a great community event for older teens to become involved with raising money for a charitable organization, while having fun. In addition to online fundraising, you can hold any fundraising event you would like to do as a team.

I have done it before and it was a blast. I would captain the team myself but I will be busy on event day helping the organizers.

NEW DAY AND TIME FOR KARATE – Starting January

If enough interest Karate will start in January.
For children of all ages and any parents who wish to join in. It is traditional Karate with an emphasis on full body fitness and health. Cost $35 per month, Monday 1:30-3:00. Classes are held at Grovenor Park United Church.

Delay for Homeschool Skating

The Homeschool Skating program will be delayed in starting. The Warman Diamond Arena is having manufacturer related problems with their chiller so the ice won’t be ready. The earliest, best case, that the arena will be open for business is September 27! I will pass on any other info I am given, and you can always phone the Diamond Arena (at 933-2033) to double check things on your own.
